.
it's been awhile since anyone's heard from me...sorry!
I'm still alive...sitting
on the ground outside of my dorm, with the wet ground freezing my ass.
I finally found internet, well jacking someone else's, to be more precise. So...to say its been a whirlwind like no other is a really good explanation for the past few days. Since there's been going on I'll keep it short because I don't feel like typing it all myself. Short and with lots of pictures
- So the other exchange students from USC...pretty cool, but definitely not my crowd. Guess theres never a better time to learn to get along with different kinds of people
- There's us, a Danish guy, an Australian, a Kiwi, a British guy, a guy from Panama, four other Americans, and assorted Koreans. Pretty good crowd, even if they are all stranger than what I'm used to in their own ways
- Went out drinking with all the other internationals already, got drunk, had to take care of a large Australian (Australian drinking stereotypes don't hold water...or vomit)
- Finished our Alien Registration, kind of difficult with minimal Japanese, but we're legal for all sorts of junk now.
- Met my roommate. Very nice guy, kind of otaku, in the creepy shy way. Have definitely met some great Japanese people so far, including my international volunteer Rina and a senior in the dorm who likes to play drinking games with us with straight liquor.
- Went shopping at all sorts of places, including Dotonbori (where I finally got my cellphone for an arm and a leg and a birthday) and Life, which is the Japanese Wal-Mart...where I'm buying all of my clothes.
- Been to several socials, a comedy routine (Osakan staple), two orientations, and a freshman ceremony (Japanese dorm policy is akin to frats, and the freshman really take it seriously)
- Eaten cuttlefish, undercooked eggs, okonomiyaki, sushi, takoyaki, experienced the all you can drink-ness of nomihoodai and tried to pick up some Kansai-ben (the dialect and accent kind of similar to Southern English...thankfully)
So now I have another social to go to, and wait for classes to start without blowing too much money on all the awesome food, drink and clothes. So now that I can ninja the net, I'll do better at updating. Hope to hear from everyone soon, and there's two people who read this occasionally and know that I was worried about them but they should feel better and hear from me soon after they read this :) I'm looking forward to the next post myself. めちゃすげええ
